Tracy teaches a CLB 1/2 youth class at Mohawk College in Hamilton, Ontario, where she has taught for the past 8 years. She specializes in structured literacy instruction and remediation techniques. Her experience tutoring children with dyslexia using the Orton–Gillingham approach, combined with a Master of Special Education has equipped her with strong expertise in evidence-based literacy practices. She offers various PD presentations and level B educational assessments through Crewson Educational Consulting (studentinsight.ca).
Tracy’s interest in the world of learning disabilities began with her oldest son when he was identified as dyslexia. Over the next several years, 2 more of her children would be diagnosed with various learning disabilities. After returning to school in 2015-2015 to become a certified ESL teacher, Tracy began teaching adults and found that many of the principles and practices she’d learned working with Dyslexic children applied to her adult literacy learners. Tracy understands the challenges of learning disabilities as both educator and parent, with all their complexities and emotions. She is passionate about using student strengths and ensuring that every student, child or adult, has the opportunity to learn.
