How well I remember the frustration! Why wasn’t my son learning to read? Why did he seem to have it one day, and the next day, it was as if he had never seen it before? Yet he also had so many strengths! What was going on?
It was a diagnosis that finally gave us the answers that we needed. Once we had answers, we could find solutions. And while I was afraid that a diagnosis would create a label that he would never be able to escape, answers allowed us to find appropriate and necessary remediation as well as provide him with accommodations within the classroom.
If your child is experiencing academic struggles, a Level B assessment can be a first step to determining underlying issues. These assessments can provide insights into specific areas of academic functioning and identify gaps in learning performance. They can also identify areas of learning strengths. Together, this information can be used to inform classroom accommodations and support.
Level B assessments:
- Are administered by a qualified professional
- Are standardized assessments
- Can identify strengths, weaknesses and areas needing support
- Less expensive than a full psychoeducational assessment
- If you are considering educational testing for your child, I’d be happy to speak with you as to whether this assessment is the right choice for your child.
